Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is an effective treatment to enhance skin quality, addressing concerns like acne scarring and wrinkles. At The Marr Clinic we offer two microneedling devices – Dermapen® and Procell – so your treatment can be tailored to your skin needs and comfort preferences.
60 Minutes
Skin rejuvenation and scar 3-6 treatments 4-6 weeks apart
Minimally invasive non-surgical procedure for facial rejuvenation. Pain block cream is provided prior to treatment to ensure your comfort throughout.
12 months after recommended treatments.
As each fine needle punctures the skin, it creates a channel or micro-wound. The needles can be up to 3 mm in length, but typically 0.5 mm needles are used to minimise bleeding and enable rapid recovery.
The needles injure superficial dermal collagen strands and small blood vessels, triggering a controlled cascade of inflammation that releases various growth factors. This leads to the production of new collagen, elastin, and blood vessels. New blood vessel formation and new collagen results in thickened skin and reduced scars, with improved skin texture, firmness, and hydration.
The microchannels also enhance the infusion of products like hyaluronic acid or vitamins, improving skin tone and texture by enhancing product absorption.
We use two professional microneedling devices at The Marr Clinic, allowing us to select the most appropriate option for your skin and comfort:
Dermapen® Precision microneedling
Dermapen® uses a vertical stamping motion to create consistent, controlled micro-channels in the skin. It is well suited to targeted treatment of scarring, texture, and pigmentation concerns.
Procell Percussion microneedling
The Procell microneedling device uses a percussion-based movement, which many patients find more comfortable than traditional microneedling. This gentle, oscillating action delivers the same skin-stimulating benefits and is a great option for those who are more sensitive or new to microneedling.

Microneedling is NOT suitable for individuals who meet one or more of these criteria:
Our comprehensive Microneedling session includes application of pain block cream 30 minutes prior to the procedure and double cleansing of the treatment area. Your practitioner will select either the Dermapen® or Procell device based on your skin concerns and comfort preferences.
2-4 weeks prior to a Microneedling procedure, we recommend priming the skin with active ingredients such as a depigmentation agent like hydroquinone, exfoliating agents like BHA or AHA, vitamin A, and vitamin C. This reduces the risk of post-treatment complications like post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (especially in patients with darker skin types), maximises treatment outcomes, and assists in speeding up healing time.
For the next 5-7 days, avoid using moisturisers or lotions containing active ingredients such as retinol, glycolic acids, perfumes, and colours. Please use the moisturiser recommended to you for 3-7 days or until your skin is no longer sensitive. Thereafter, continue with your usual moisturisers unless advised otherwise. Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun, so minimise sun exposure and wear a hat and sunscreen daily. Apply foundation as desired. Slight crusting and/or scabbing in particular areas may develop. If so, do not rub or pick the skin as this may lead to scarring.
