SUBCISION SCAR TREATMENT

Subcision scar treatment involves inserting a needle or a cannula (a round-tipped needle) under the skin and moving it backward and forward to break down the scar tissue tethering the skin down.

The Science

Subcision involves a specialized hypodermic needle that is gently inserted through a small puncture in the skin’s surface. The needle’s edge is used to break the fibrotic strands that anchor scars to the underlying tissue. The trauma to the underlying skin with the needle or cannula initiates the body’s natural repair process, leading to the formation of new collagen which further improves the appearance of the scar.

Subcision scar treatment is NOT suitable for individuals who meet one or more of these criteria:

Common Expected Side Effects

Uncommon Side Effects:

Local anesthesia is administered on the area to be treated. A needle or cannula is inserted at an acute angle adjacent to the scar, effectively transecting fibrous bands. The number and intensity of subcisions may vary based on the patient’s response and the area being treated.

Pre-Procedure Care:

Post-Procedure Care:

Avoid touching the treated areas for 2 hours to allow for injection sites to heal. Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer twice daily and avoid picking at the treated areas.
Subcision can be effectively combined with various treatments to enhance results, including:
– Topical retinoids
– Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for collagen enhancement
– Microneedling (Dermapen)
– Chemical peels
– LED therapy
– Fractional laser treatments (e.g., – Clear and Brilliant, V laser)
– Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers and bio-remodeling injections

Benefits

Significantly improving the appearance of the scar by initiating the body’s natural repair process.

Long term after recommended course of treatments.

3-6 treatments, one month apart.
