DERMAPEN MICRONEEDLING

Dermapen micro-needling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is an effective treatment to enhance skin quality, addressing concerns like acne scarring and wrinkles.

The Science

As each fine needle punctures the skin, it creates a channel or micro-wound. The needles can be up to 3 mm in length, but typically 0.5 mm needles are used to minimize bleeding and enable rapid recovery. These microchannels close spontaneously after 10 minutes, maintaining the integrity of the epidermal barrier.

The needles injure superficial dermal collagen strands and small blood vessels, triggering a controlled cascade of inflammation that releases various growth factors. This leads to the production of new collagen, elastin, and blood vessels. New blood vessel formation and new collagen results in thickened skin and reduced scars, with improved skin texture, firmness, and hydration.

The microchannels also enhance the infusion of products like hyaluronic acid or vitamins, improving skin tone and texture by enhancing product absorption.

Dermapen microneedling is NOT suitable for individuals who meet one or more of these criteria:

Common Expected Side Effects

Uncommon Side Effects:

Our comprehensive Dermapen micro-needling session includes application of a numbing cream 30 minutes prior to the procedure and double cleansing of the area of treatment.

Pre-Procedure Care:

2-4 weeks prior to a Dermapen micro-needling procedure, we recommend priming the skin with active ingredients such as a depigmentation agent like hydroquinone, exfoliating agents like BHA or AHA, vitamin A, and vitamin C. This reduces the risk of post-treatment complications like post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (especially in patients with darker skin types), maximizes treatment outcomes, and assists in speeding the healing time.

Post-Procedure Care:

For the next 5-7 days, avoid using moisturizers or lotions containing active ingredients such as retinol, glycolic acids, perfumes, and colors. Please use the moisturizer recommended for 3-7 days or until your skin is no longer sensitive. Thereafter, continue with your usual moisturizers unless advised otherwise. Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun, so minimize sun exposure and wear a hat and sunscreen daily. Apply foundation as desired. Slight crusting and/or scabbing in particular areas may develop. If so, do not rub or pick the skin as this may lead to scarring.
